Chopper Tech is taught by the original founders of "Chopper College" who designed and taught the courses here in our Beach Park facility. When the owner decided to sell Chopper College, the instructors Jake Brock and Mike Drobena decided to continue teaching classes as Chopper Tech.
The focus of Chopper Tech is still based on teaching the technical information necessary to understand, build, restore and maintain a Harley Davidson or custom Harley type motorcycles.
Jake is a former airline mechanic with over 25 years experience in the motorcycle industry. His background in the airline industry has allowed him to incorporate some unique aircraft styles and techniques into his bike building. He will ensure you know how to correctly troubleshoot problems with your bike, not simply buy parts to throw on the bike and spend money uselessly. Jake started his first shop in Chicago, IL in 1983 out of his garage and currently owns and operates a state-of-the-art custom motorcycle facility in Lake County, Illinois. The shop is able to handle everything from machining and wiring, to fabrication of parts.
Mike has over 25 years of experience building motorcycles. He recognized the need for courses for new and experienced riders alike. Many new riders and aspiring mechanics make costly mistakes or end up at a shop where having the knowledge taught in our courses could have saved them hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars. Mike is an experienced electrician with all of the skills needed for any troubleshooting.
Courses are held at Best Cycle Service in Beach Park, Illinois. The shop has been owned and operated by Jake for over 10 years. You will find all the latest equipment needed for the bike building process (Dynometer and Flow Bench along with the latest tools and technical manuals). With over 5000 sq. ft., the building is a bike builders dream.
